Planning Your Program
The international studies major is composed of six concentations:
Africa
Asia
International Economics
Latin America
Modern Europe
World Politics and Diplomacy
Each of these concentrations is coordinated by an advisor with special expertise in the concentration. Students with specific interest outside the established concentrations may petition the international studies coordinator to create an independent concentration.
The structure of the international studies major lends itself to double majoring and minoring, especially in fields such as modern literatures and cultures, political science, economics, history, geography, anthropology, and sociology. While the international studies major has great breadth because of its multi-disciplinary approach, by necessity, it has less depth in any one area than one might find in a traditional discipline. As a result, international studies majors may wish to complement their major with a second major or minor in a standard discipline.
